THE WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL AND MR F. C. LEWIS.
TO THB KDITOH. Sin, —With reference to that part of a report of the proceedings of a meeting of the Waikato County Council, that appeared in your issue of Saturday last, relating to the taking of a portion of Mr Ewen's land at Tamahevo, and in winch report Mr Barugh's ill-judged utterance appeared conspicuously, will you please publish the following copy »f a telegram which I have sent to the Hon. Minister of Public Works, on the subject :—Tel. " whole affair is a repeated attempt to illegally seize, without compensation, a roadway for the exclusive benefit of Mr Barugh, a member of that Council." If the parties interested succeed in their plot, Mr Kwen and his successors will, when the adjacent land is utilised, be burdened with the expense of erecting and keeping in repair the fences of Mr Barugh's road for ever.—Yours truly, F. C. Lewis, Trustee. 3rd February. 1888.
