(By Electric Telegraph.—Copyiught.) Sydney, February 2. Cardinal Moran has replied to the allegation of Dr. Thornton, Bishop of Ballarat, relative to the part played by the Roman Catholics in the Centennary celebrations. His Eminence denies that grace was not said in order to please the Catholics. He expected the Governor to pronounce jrrace, but it seems that no arrangement was made for it. He also states that the Catholic party were not dominant, aud he purposely restricted the number of those present at the public functions to three, though a great number of prelates were in Sydney special Catholic services. The death is announced of Lady Parkes, wife of Sir Henry Parkes, aged 74. A heavy gale was experienced here today, and the roof was blown off the new stand at the Show grounds, and other considerable damage done. Foley and Burke are arranging a fight to the finish for not less than £500 aside. The Stock Inspector reports the increase of sheep to be S,000,000; cattle, 213,000; horses, 27,000—results which are attributable to the good season. Adelaide, February 2. There has been a considerable exodus, principally of farmers, to the north-west of Victoria. Bad reports on agriculture have been received from the Northern district aud Yorke Peninsula. THE LATEST. Sydney, February 3. A fund is beinu raised by the Wesleyans in honour of the Centennial of Australia, and has reached the sum of £10,000, aud subscriptions are still eomiuu in. The Hon. B. E. Wise has been compelled, owing to private business, to resign his position as Attorney General. It is expected that Sir Robert Wisdom will succeed Mr Wise, and that he will take charge of the Government business in the Legislative Council. Melbourne, February 3.
