The disease appeared the Jay after leaving Honolulu. The patient is a passenger from 'Frisco and is isolated. Thero are no fresh cases. The mail is being fumigated and the Auckland passengers are to land in quarantine. Worth, the passenger suffering from small-pox, is to bo taken on to Sydney, his destination. The Auckland cargo will not be allowed to land. [FROM OUli OWN COURUSI'ONDKNT.] Auckland, Friday. The R.M.s.s. Mariposa arrived in harbour this afternoon from San Francisco and Honolulu. As soon as she rounded the north head it was noticed she was flying the yellow flag, and speculation ran high as to what disease had broken out. As she could not come up the harbour she dropped anchor close to the Bean Bock lighthouse, and within a very short time Dr. Lewis, Health Officer, put off in the Custom's steam launch. Inquiries elicited the fact that there was an outbreak of small-pox on board, and in consequence, all communications with the vessel was absolutely prohibited. It seems that two days after leaving Honolulu* steerage passenger named Worth, bemnd for Sydney, was found to be suffering from small-pox. In thirteen days prior to arrival there have been no fresh cases. The Mariposa brings eleven passengers for Auckland, in the saloon being Mr and Mrs Percival and Messrs Reed and Fenwick. Immediately the Health Officer had made his examination he ordered the passengers into quarantine and ordered the steamer to discharge cargo and mails into the fumigating hulk Clara Hargreaves, lying off Orakei Bay. The passengers will be taken to Motuihi this afternoon, and all communication with that island is strictly prohibited. The Mariposa has about (iOO tons of cargo for this port, and nearly 000 for Sydney, beside a good number of passengers. She will leave for Sydney to-morrow morning.
