THE BRITISH NAVY.
SPEECH BY LORD CHARLES BERESFORD. [By Electric, Telegraph.— Copyright.| Loneon. January 27SpHAKTxa at Marylebone, Lord Charles Beresford stated that he had resigned his position as» junior Lord of the Admiralty because Lord George Hamilton, the First Lord of the Admiralty, had overruled the opinions of the naval experts. He declared that until the recent reforms the navy had no organisation of a character adequate in the event of war, even the coaling stations having been neglected. The Admiralty had also insisted upon reducing the salaries in the Intelligence Department. The Times, in commenting upon Lord Beresford's speech, states that the picture drawn is an appalling one. The Standard, on the other hand, maintains that the resignation of Lord Beresford was unjustified.
