Church of En'glaxj). —The annual meetting of the congregation of St. _ Mark's Church took place on Friday evening, the Rev. J. Marshall presiding. Tho minutes of tho previous meeting were confirmed, and the treasurer's statement of accounts read and adopted. A brief review of the progress of tiie church during the year was given by the rev. chairman, and it was shown that notwithstanding the depression which had prevailed, the present position was satisfactory. Various matters affecting the welfare of the congregation were discussed, and resolutions bearing upon the different subjects were passed. Mr W. if. P. Marsden was appointed minister's warden, and Mr C. Ahier elected people's warden for tho year. Vestrymen : —Messrs Heathcote, Pyne, D«bson, Winstone, Emerson, and Dr. A. Wright. The following is the statement of receipts and expenditure for the year ended 31st. December, 1887. General fund: Receipts, offertory, £91 2<; IMmids, 15s ; baptismal fees, £2; total, £93 17s. Expenditure, debt of balance at December 3lst. ISBG, £5 lis 4d ; stipend, £G1; cleaning, £8 1-ts ; advertising and printing, £4 ; lighting, £4 5s 4d ; repairs, £3 7s 3d ; sundries, £7 3s ■}d ; parsonage site and survey, £5 14s 9d ; Molqaie-iian afjd Home Mission Funds, £2 ; total, £101 li!s, l)r. balance of £7 19s. Pl'lir.ic Library.—'The usual meeting of the subscribers to the Public Library was held in the building on Friday evening, Mr R. Harris occupying the chair. The report of the Committe of Management and the balance-sheet for the year ending 31st December, 1887, were read and adopted. The receipts and expenditure were as follows:—Receipts: Balance from lSßfi, £12 3s 9d ; Government subsidy, £18 19s 5d ; donation from Mr Gill, £5 os ; proceeds from concert, £7 12s Gd; sale of periodicals, ,£4 2s; subscriptions, £20 (i-i; total, £7-1 8s Sd. Expenditure : Rent, ■C'lo 10s { insurance, etc., 19s 3d ; librarian, £32 10s; book and periodicals, £21 12s lid; firewood, etc., advertising, ISs; balance, £7 0s Gd ; total, £74 8s Bd. J. B. Whyte, Esq., M.H.R., was reelected president, Messrs F. Pavitt and It. Harris vice-presidents, and Mr A. Menzie.-, treasurer and secretary. The Revs. J. Marshall and S. Lawry, and Messrs Oannell, Black, Mills and Smales constituted the new committee. Anniykusary Day.—Yesterday being Anniversary Day a number of the business places were closed, but there were few other signs of holiday-making. Heavy showers of rain fell during tho morning, and put a stop to out-of-door pleasures. District School. —Duties were resumed yesterday at the district school after the holidays. A slight change has been made in the teaching staff, Miss Mulgan, of Onelnmgii, taking the place of Miss Reid, who has been removed to another district.
