A writer in Harper's Magazine for November has some interesting things to Bay about the Argentine Republic. Ho nays the cattle bu-dness in the Argentina in becoming monopolised by vast corporations:— , Rich Englishmen and Scotchmen ana Irishmen lire combining their interests, leasing or buying empires of territory, and stocking it with the best breeds. Companies with five million dollars capital are common, and those with ten millions are not rare. The Governments of Argentine Uruguay subsidise the business of exportin" frozen meat, and the Germans »s well as the English and Scotch are taking advantage of the liberal concessions. IMe Governments will guarantee dividends ot u per cent, per annum upon an investment of 500,000 dollars or more, provided the annual exports amount, to 20,000 carcasses of beef for every 100,000 dollars invested The Liebiy Fx tract of Beef Company has 15,000,000 of dollars invested at Fray Lentos—a little town on tho Uruguay Riverwhore it consumes half a million nencl ot cattle a year, and pays dividends of -i per cent, The London find River 1 late Frozen Meat Company is becoming as (?reat n commercial octopus as the Standard Oil Company, and is now shipping 7,000 carcases a week to England on refrigerator ships constructed for the purrose. _____
