SPORTING.
Te Awamutu Races. CiIVEN fine weather the races at Te Awamutu on Monday promise to be a great success ; in f.ict the most successful meeting the Waipa Racina: Club has ever had. The entries and acceptances are unusually good, there being nine for the Hurdles out of eleven nomin.aeJ. Larrikin also accepted, but us his acceptance was too late, it was rejected ; but for this mistake there would have baen ten. His acceptance was posted at Waiuku on the 20th ; consequently it w.-is a day too late. There are twelve for the Maiden Plate, sixteen for the Novel Race, eleven acceptors out of twelve nominations for the Te Awamutu Cup, and nineteen nominations for the Kihikihi Plate, thu weights for which will be declared on the field. The acceptances for the two handicaps are, we consider, a compliment to the skill of the handienppers, for, judging by the number of acceptors, the horse-owners are satisfied. From the formation of tho Club the committee wisely determined to keep within their means, with the result that tho institution is in a flourishing condition. While the prizes are not too large for their means,'they aro still large enough to attract good fields, and with such good perfortrers as can be found in the various events good racing may be expected. The course is one of the best in the colony ; it is perfectly level, is very pretty, ami has a magnificent natural grand stand which the committee intend fencing in and planting with ornamental and shade trees. The train arrangements are perfect, facilities being offered to persons from every part of the district to attend. Conducted in the future as in the past the Club must prosper, and we wish them every success. Breastplate's Tips. The acceptances and general entries are
very good and a good day's sport is sure to come off. For the hurdles in public performances there is nothing in it but the Don and Coral the former for choice, and for an outsider Cardplayer is highly spoken of, but bar accidents the Don will win. The Maiden Plate should be. a good race, and Memorandum, Earnest ;uid Deceiver, are about the best of the lot, though Lonely is looked on as a good thin:,', ! but with a start I will place them in the order named. Foil the Cui , , the Clown, notwithstanding his heavy impost, will take a lot of beating and next to him I take it that Sir Walter and AlhvelPs selection, Brittania or Memorandum aro the best. For the Novel Race, there aro so many unknown ones that it is hard to give an idea but Diana, Kotiro and Grasshopper should be the winner. The Kihikihi Plate, depends on tho handicap which will be made on the ground, but with a good handicap, Pretender will make it warm for most of them. " Blue Gown's" Tip.—Te Awamutu Cup : Memorandum.
