EXPENSIVE KISSING.

At the Doncustcr (Wesl" Riditi?.') Police Court recently, Alfred Westerby, signalman 0:1 the Winchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire 11-iihvay :it Deuaby, was summoned on a nliarirn of assaulting Lizzie Hewitt, wife of 1? ] ward Thomas Hewitt, shunter, who lived at ljeuaby. Defendant for twelve months lrid lodged with complainant. On Saturday week the defendant and the complainant were in the house alone, when lis drew lui attention to a parairriph in the newspaper with regard to an elopement in Wales, and asked her to rend it. Directly afterwards the defendant said, " Missus, I have fallen in lore with you, and 1 should like you to fall in love with me." Witness replied, "You must not talk to mo in tfyit way, for you must remember that I am a married woman," and 011 that day he said no more. On Sunday her husband was at home all day. On Monday forenoon defendant was again at home while her husband was at work, and he asked her if she had thought over what he had said tq her with regard to the elopement, Sho exclaimed, "Surely you are not in earnest ? and he replied, "Yes, I am ; I am very muoh in love with you." He then got hold of hor round the waist, "tipped" her under the chin, and kissed her. The defence was a total denial of the kissing, and it was said that all that took place was a little unusual chaff about defendant's forthcoming marriage, The Bench imposed a penalty of 30s, includiug costs.
