UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. |By Ki.kctkic Ti::.!;c;iiArn.— Coituight.] Sydnky, January 17. Thk American ship J. T. Berry, bound from Philadelphia to Japan, tonic tire at sen on the !>th inst. The fire spread over the vessel, which had a cargo of petroleum, so rapidly that the crow had barely time to escape, which they did in two boats. One of the boats, containing the captain, mate, and twelve of the crew, was picked up by a passing vessel, and last night was towed into the Heads at Nambucca river, 340 miles north of here. The occupants of the boat suffered great hardships, and encountered very rough weather before being picked up. The second boat, which had eleven men on board, is missing, hut it is though probably it would make for New Zealand. The pilot steamer has been dispatched to search for the missing boat.
