IiOPAr, tradesman nt Eastbourne recently exhibited in his window a block of Mr Gladstone's Hawardcn t.imher, and the srenuinenc.ss of the "Chip from the old block," as it was culled, having been doubted, a communication was forwarded to the ri frlit lion, gentleman. The following reply has been received " Dear sir,—ln reply to your letter, I may state that, in the di-patch of wood from the trees cut. by Mr Gladstone, the bailiff acts under my iinimdiate supervision, and that you may absolutely depend upon it that the wood sent from hero purporting to be of Mr Gladstone';* cutting is •runnine. - Yours faithfully, \V. H. Gladstone."
