Company's Manures. Perhaps few districts in the colony consume so large a quantity of artificial manures for improving the land as the Waikato. Our farmers have long recognised the value of fertilising the soil they bring under cultivation, and every year sees an increase in the quantity of chemie.il manures used at the sains time as the area of land improved and brought under the plough or put into permanent pasture increases. livery year the capabilities of the Waikato for producing heavy crops of roots and cereals show satisfactory signs of increase. The manures in general favour with the Wiiikato farmers are those manufactured by the New Zealand Frozen Meat and Storage Company at their extensive chemical works at Otahuhu. The Company went into this industry with a most commendable spirit of enterprise, and have by persistent energy and push made their manures known throughout the northern districts the midland portions of this island. Their manufactures have been introduced m these agricultural and pastoral districts by Mr lambe, by whose efforts a largo connection lias been established with a rapidity increasing business. The Company's works at Olahuhu are very all their departments, and are under th efficient management of Mr Henry Syinons> who has had a long and practical experience in England. The industry has given considerable, encouragement to others of a subsidary character, such as the production of sulpliiir from White Island for the manufacture of sulphuric acid, and the utilisation of coal tar or gas liquor from the Auckland Gas Company for the production of sulphate of ammonia. South Sea Island guano is imported for the manufacture of superphosphate, which is, therefore, of the highest quality, and more easily assimilated with growing crops or pasturage. The company produce the following manures Potato, corn, maize, tob'icco, grass, orchard, superphosphates an'! !>.>> dust, all varying in price, and all guaranteed sound in quality and fertilising power, livery information can be obtained from Mr Lambe, on his periodical visits ; he is a practical farmer, and a good judge of soils and their requirements.
