HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Council met last night at the Council Chambers. Present; Tlie Mayor, Crs. Knox, Sandes, Missen, Bell, and Jones. Mr Wood made the usual declaration and took his seat at the Council. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The correspondence was read and dealt with. The Baths.—Mr Pannell wrote that the baths we rebeing largely attended, especially by ladies, and that he found the accomondaion insufficient. Ho asked that certain additions and offices be made.—ln reply to Cr. Bell, the clerk said the cost of the addtions would be about £li.—Cr. Knox moved that the matter be referred to the Baths committee, to report at the next meeting. Seconded by Cr. Jones and carried. Judgment fob Rates.—Mr McGregor Hay wrote to say that the judgment against Mr G. N. Brassey for arrears of rates had expired, and asked for instructions. Referred to Legal Committee. Salauy of Cluuk to Licensing Costmittee.—Mr J. B. Whyte, M.H.R., wrote that a clause was to be inserted in the Municipal Corporation Act Amendment Bill to enable the Council to make such payment, and recommended in the meantime that the amount be paid out of the Mayor's salary.— Referred to Legal Committee Drain Thhouoh Mr Vincent's ProPEItTV.—Mr Vincent wrote for a decisive reply from the Council on this vexed question, Cr. Knox moved the adjournment of tlie Council, in order to speak on the matter.—Cr. Bell asked that the business be proceeded with. Crown and Native Lands Rating Act. —The Treasury wrote to warn the Council that the payments under the Act would cease after March next. Market Reserve.—Mr T. W. Maunder offered to lease the Market Reserve on certain conditions.—Letter received. Piako County Council—The clerk of the Piako County Council wrote to say that the County Council having decided to hold their future meeting at Morrinsville, they wished to convey to the Borough Council their thanks for the past use of their chambers. The monthly reports from the foreman of works and poundkecper were received and adopted. Balance Due by Hospital and Charitable Aid Board.—The clerk said that the Waikato Hospital and Charitable Aid Board owed the Council a balance of £4 5s 9d, for cash advanced to the board for the relief of distress. Cr. Knox moved, and Cr. Jones seconded, that the board be applied to for a refund of the amount forthwith. Accounts.—The following accounts were passed for payment:—J. Parr, 3s; S. McLernon, 7s; T. Jones, £7 5s 2d; Jas. Coombes, £10 lis lOd ; Geo. Mayes, £3 14s 8rl; Win. Taylor, 12s lid ; J. A. Bradley, 9s 2d ; Robt. Waite, £1 12s Cd; T. W. Maunder, £1; Win. Peacock, £1 0s Gd ; D. Lees, £1 2s Gd ; Murray and Spencer, 18s; Robert Peat, £1 Is 3d ; The Waikato Times, £2 2s. Works Committee.—Cr. Knox moved, in accordance with previous notice, that resolution No. 10, of 17th October last, be rescindad, and that the following be substituted "That the whole Council compose the Works Committee, five to form a quorum. He said that in this way they would find there would be a great improvement in the work of the committee and Council. — Cr. Jones seconded.—Cr. Bell supported the motion.—Cr. Wood asked what the duties of the chairman of the works committee were.—Cr. Knox said he thought it would be best for the Mayor not to be chairman of the committee.—Motion carried.—Cr. Knox moved that the Mayor be requested to act as chairman of the Works Committee till next Monday night.—Seconded by Cr. Bell and carried. Vincent's Drain —C. Jones moved that this matter be postponed till the meeting on Monday night, when there would be a fuller meeting.—Seconded by the Mayor who hoped there would be a full meeting, so that the matter can be settled.—Carried. Cr. Knox moved that the Inspector of Nuisances be instructed to report on this drain at next meeting.—Seconded by Cr. Jones and carried.—ln reply to Cr. Wood the Mayor said any councillor who wished could accompany the Inspector of Nuisances to make his inspection. This was all the business.
