[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN COBIIESI'ONDENT.] Pakuo, Wednesday. Thk Courts.—A large number of cases came before the Magistrate at Paeroa today. James Barett, butcher of Paero, who was charged with stealing :i bullock the property of Henry Dance. Mr Miller appeared for the accused and Constable Mitchell prosecuted. Voluminous depositions were taken, and defendant was committed to take his trial at the Supreme Court, bail being allowed n £200. Neighbours petty quarrells between two farmers named Scott and Hermitt at Hikutaia, occupied a largo portion of the magistrate's time. In both summons and cross summons the information was dismissed. At the R.M. Court Henry Alley, was summoned by Mrs Nicholis for the value of a beast. Defendant had ridden into a mob of beasts which she was taking to Paeroa, and cut out one which he believed belonged to him, but the plaintiff brought evidence, that the beast had been hers for some years. An adjournment was allowed in order that Mr McNicol of Waikato might be subpoeaned. A large number of civil cases were heard and decided. The Mining Inspector —Mr H. A. Gordon, Government Mining Inspector is expected here to-night.
