WAIKATO ANNIVERSARY SWIMMING RACES.
A LARGKLY attended public meeting was held on Thursday evening at the Commercial Hotel, Mr W. A Graham in the chair, to arrange for the annual swimming competition. Considerable discussion took place on the various matters brought up, and tho following resolutions were carried. 1. That the Waikato Anniversary Swimming Races be held as usual on Anniversary Day, the 30th inst. f 2. That the matches take place on the Hamilton Lake. 3. That "trophies" only be given as prizes, no " money " prizes being offered. 4. That a respectful request bo made to the Domain Board to assist the committee in erecting a permanent stage at the Lake. 5. That Mr W. A. Graham be president of- the committee. / 6. That the committee consist of Messrs Gaudin, Knox, Von Stunner, Pascoe, W. Salmon, Pannell, G. Le Quesne, W. Dey, P. Stevens, J. Parr, Edwards, Taylor, G. Edgecumbo and T. G. Sendee, with power to add to their number. 7. That the event of the day be "The Waikato Amateur Championship Cup." 8. That the gathering be called "The Waikato Anniversary Swimming Races." 9. That Mr Knox be treasurer, and an account bo opened in the Bank of New Zealand, to be operated on by the treasurer and president. Tho sum of £6 17s 6d was subscribed in the room, and the committee agreed to meet at Le Quesne's IJall on Friday evening at 7.30 to draw up a programme. A meeting of tho committee was hold last night at La Hall when nine members wnro present. Mr W. A. Graham in the chair. A programme of twelve events was]drawn up and preliminary arrangements made for carrying out the same. Judging by the feeling of the meeting tho affair promises to be a success.
