(iieutkr's telegrams.) Port Darwin, January"4. A riot occurred hero yesterday, and a portion of the Chinese quarter, and a member of the police force was badly hurt during the row. Hohaht, January 4. The annual revenue of tho colony of Tasmania amounts to £51)7,000. being an increase of £25,000 over the amount last year. Melbourne, January 4. The Molbourne Age, in referring to the proposed visit of Lord Wolsley to the colonies, expresses an opinion that no benefit will result to any colony, and that his visit will only increase tho expenditure. Mr Gillies, Premier, explained that it would be advantageous to obtain the opinion of an expert on the combination of colonial forcos in tlie event of any colony being attacked. Mr Spoaght, Chief Commissioner of Railways, states that it would not pay the railway department to further reduce the freight on consignments of wheat.
