Entertainment at Alexandra

A VJ-XV enjoyable entertainment for the young folks took place in the Public Hall, Alexandra, on Thursday last. It was in the form of a Christmas tree and musical entertainment by the children attending the Alexandra school. The at)'air, as far as the Christinas tree is concerned, was a new one here, and Rave unlimited delight to the clpldren. Mrs Aubin, Miss Finch, Miss Hinden, Miss Allan and Mr Campbell wore the chief workers In ornamenting the tree and decorating the room, which was very tastefully done. The evening commenced with the musical part. In this Miss Madge bteele and her younger brother, Master Dick, greatly distinguished themselves in the song " Belle Mahone." The singing of the littlo boy was somewhat; wonderful for Ilia age. The clearness of his articulation and time which lie kept \vith his fine-toned voico l»rought'down tho house again and again. Another no less clever performance was that of Miss (Jrace Finch's pif|.no solo selections. The' following ' was the programme Pianoforte duot, Martha." Miss Alice Finclj and Miss Estelle Aubin ; round, ''With the spring time," the school children ; song, "Belle Mahone," Mis 3 Madge Steele and Master Dick Steele. These children greatly distinguished themselves, the little boy's singing being wonderfully clear and sweet. They were loudly encored. Pianoforte solo, " St. Patrick's Day," His:; I,owther; round, "Happy One's," the school c-hjldrprjpjanofotlw solo, Miss Grace Finch. This is a child of only six years, self-taught, and plays by ear only, but her performance was remarkable, and deserved the applause and encore, J.fijtrjbution of prizes. Quartette, "Little Lack," Misses B, and H. Sinden, Miss .15.' Bayliss and jVfiss I;, Aubin: son?, "Powder Monkey," Master Dick Steele' (encored); pianoforte solo, Miss Yj. Sage ; duet, "Sing Sweet Sister," Mis* J<v. Wilson and Miss C. Steele; pianoforte solo, sliss Grace Finch ; song, " Polliway's Dream," Miss Ji. Finch and Miss B. Auliin ; round, "(rood night to you all," tho school children. All the children went through . their several parts with evedit to themselves and their

teachers. Miss I'inch, assisted by Miss Allan and Mrs Aubin, kindly played the accompaniments. The dance which followed was greatly enjoyed.
