Sunday-school Picnics at Cambridge.
The members of Trinity Presbyterian Church held their annual Sunday-school picnic 011 Monday, at Mr Sharp's nursery, on the Hamilton Road. It was well attended, and the usual games o£ jolly miller, French teague, rounders, cricket, etc., were indulged in, and appeared to be thoroughly enjoyed. In addition to providing the site for the picnic Mr Sharp added greatly to the enjoyment of those attending by inviting the members of the Cambridge Band to spend the day with him, .md after they had partaken of his hospitality, they kindly performed at intervals 'during the afternoon, and in the evening marched back to Cambridge, playing a lively quickstep. This olosed the proceedings with eclat. The attendance was much more than was expected, and the eatables required careful manipulation to make them go round, and even then every morsel was disposed of. The English Church was not held, because of the fete having taken place so recently, and consequently many youngsters and others who usually attend it wandered ont to Mr Sharp's, and bestowed their patronage on the Presbyterians, who, although they did not expect them, gave thein a hearty welcome, and shared whatever they hnd witl) them, we fear to t.he detriment of their own scholars. Mr Sharp's paddook is a delightful place for a picnic, as the fine grove of gum trees provides the necessary shade, but does not exclude the breeze.
The Baptists spent their holiday , at Fairview, Cambridge West, the" residence of Mr Hugh Fitzgerald, and a very enjoyable day was spent, aij abundance of good things being proyidad in the shape of fruit and more substantial fare, The usual out-door games were indulged -in, and t.he. youngsters, ayo, and oldsters too, returned home in the evening tired and happy.
