THE TAMAHERE POUND.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —As I have, through the Waikato and Auckland Press, been accused of committing illegal acts, locking up pounds, and placing notices thereon, will you kindly publish the second pal t of the correspondence, and oblige. To The Chairman - and Mkmueus Camhhidoe lloAii Hoard. Gentlemen - ,—l feel much pained and surprised at yon, authorising or desiring your clerk to write such a letter to anyone threatening all sorts of things before making sure of your ground. If yon did int desire your clerk to pursue this course, then I think he is much to blame in sending such an impertinent letter, and though local bodies and every other body, are fully entitled to an explanation in any - matter, threats, and censure, and accusations are withheld till explanation, and satisfaction has been denied. Under the circumstances, I decline to enter into any explanation, whatever, and yon are quite at liberty to spend the peoples' money (though I am soiy for them), in proceeding against me, which I regard with defiance. I am, gentlemen, yours obediently, J. M. Gelling. Kirikiriroa, :11st December, I>S7. tf. M. Gelling, Ksq., Hamilton. Dear Sir,—At last meeting of the Cambridge Hoad Hoard it was reported that a certain notification had been posted on the Cambridge Public Pound, and a padlock put on the gate by yon. Seeing that there is a notice board on the enclosure indicating its chaiactcr, and taking into consideration your knowledge of local government law, you can scarcely claim to lie irresponsible, whatever may hare incited you to commit this illegal act. 1 was therefore desired to request an explanation, and to inform yon that if the notice and obstruction above mentioned are not at once removed legal proceedings will be taken against yon. An oarly reply is solicited, a# by your action a considerable amount of inconvenience has been occasioned.— Yours truly, .T. McT’u.cuson, Clerk Cambridge Head Hoard.
