WAIPA PUNT AT NGARUAWAHIA.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I believe the enclosed correspondence will be of interest to many of your readers, and I should bo glad of its insertion in the next issue of your valuable paper.—l am, &0., Edward Bellhousr. Wellington, November 21st, 1887, Mr Belihouse, Dear sir,—Your note of the Kith to hand yesterday. I will lay your letter before the Minister for Lands, and do what I can to have your wishes acceeded to. The question of a punt being established over tho Waipa at Ngaruawahia has already been submitted to Government by myself, and lam daily expecting an answer. You may rest assured I will do what I can for your young settlement. I understood before I left Waikato that Mr Ballanee had promised £IOO towards punt. If he did, he left no record of such promise. I have made diligent search, without success.— Yours truly, Wn. Jackson. Wellington, November 21st, 1887. —Sir, —I beg to enclose herewith Mr Cooper’s (Under Colonial Secretary) reply to your letter of the Kith iir,t., and aip sorry that 1 am not able to communicate to you a more favourable answer from Government. I shall always bo glad to attend to anything that you may wish to bring to tho notice of Government, and hope to bo more fortunate next time, but any request that entails expenditure of tho public funds will, I am afraid (except in rare and extreme cases), not result in much being done.—Yours truly, Wm. Jackson, Mr L.dwarJ Bolllnuse, Firewood Creek, Ngaruawahia, Dear Major Jackson,—l return Mr Bellhouse’s letter. The question raised in which is the same as that in Mr Dickson’s, and of course tho answer is the. same—viz., (hat all tho available money will bo wanted for the road, and the county will have to provide the punt.—Faithfully yours, G. S. Cooper. UQveie.ber2lst ; 1887.
