TE AROHA.

Town Boaiiii.—The regular monthly meeting of the Town Board was held on Saturday evening. Present: Messrs Frazer, Hotchin and Dobson. Mr Frazer was voted to the chair pro tern. On the motion of Mr Hotchin, seconded by Mr Frazer, Mr J. A. Dobson was elected to fill the position of chairman of the Board, vice Mr K. Ottimi resigned. The minutes of the previous monthly and special meetings were read and confirmed. Inward correspondence was read, and dealt with as follows Letter from Secretary Waikato Hospital and Charitable Aid Board relative to endowments. Clerk instructed to reply. From Clerk Piako County Council, intimating that action re river conservancy had been taken by the Council. Received. From Clerk Ohinemun County Council, and from Messrs Bagnall Bros., Tnrua, both referring to matters in connection with rivercoti trol. The clerk was insirncted to write to Messrs Bagnall, informing them that the course suggested in their letter had already been adopted, and that the Board would assist as far as lay in its power to have the extended powers granted to the Thames Harbour Board cancelled. It was also resolved that a letter lie sent from the Board to the Minister of Marine, supporting the action token by the Piako County Council, Messis-J. Livery and J. Allen attended as a depot d t oi horn the Wesleyan body to represent t> the Burd the state of the principal thoroughfares leading to the Church, an 1 to make an offer of assistance m having a good approach formed. Resolved “ That the members present be constituted a Works Committee to inspect the ground, and with power to authorise the engineer to have the proposed work carried out or otherwise.” Air H. Crump was appointed Returning Officer for the election of members shortly to be held. The clerk to the Piako County Council was asked to furnish a duly certified copy of the roll. A short discussion took place as to the advisability of having a proper roll compiled for the town district, and on the motion of Mr Frazer, seconded by Mr Hotchin, it was resolved “That a special meeting of the Board be called for Monday, December sth, for the purpose of appointing a valuer or valuers ; also to take into consideration the questionof alteringtheday and hour of the monthly meetings of the Board, and to discuss any other business of which due notice may be given.” Tlie pmmdkeeper’s statement for the month ending November 2 ith was submitted. and showed the gross amount realised from sales, etc., to be £2O 7s lid, of which sum less charges the proportion paid to the Bend was its 21. Lengthened consideration was afterwards given to the monetary position of the Board, and insulted in the following resolutions being unanimously adopted;—l. “That in view of the financial position the present office of the Board be eh.sed, and that the services of a paid clerk In in the meantime dispensed with." 2. “That Mr Frazer be appointed clerk to tlie Board, without salary.” 3. “ That on and after December 3rd the recognised office of the Board shall he at the store of Mr D. J. Frazer, and that due notice be given of the removal.” This concluded the. business of the meeting. Fancy Dkess Bali,.—A plain and fancy dress ball, to celebrate the anniversary of the opening of Te Aroha as a goldfield, took place in the Public Hall on Friday evening. There was a large attendance and the affair passed off most successfully, dancing being kept up until the dawn of day proclaimed to the votaries of Terpsichore that it was time for them to prepare again for the more sober realities of life. Sale at Mu J. B. .Smith’s.—At the sale of Mr J. B. Smith’s stock, furniture and other effects at Waitnaon Friday there was a large attendance, many buyers being present from Waikato and other places at a distance. The prices realised were i,n the whole satisfactory. Waitoa Gqlii Mixing Company.— Two of the directors of the Christchurch Waitoa Goidmining Company are now hero, and have paid a visit of inspection to tho property. It is stated that steps will shortly be taken to have a small plant of machinery erected on the ground for testing purposes.
