WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The annual meeting of the Waipa County Council was held at Ohanpo on Wednesday. Present : Crs. Lang, Rirldler, Smith, Grice, Dawson, Farrell and Hunter. Chairman.—Cr. Smith moved that Cr. Lang be elected chairman. Seconded by Cr. Dawson and carried unanimously. Drainage of Kihikihi. —Cr. Grice proposed and Cr. Dawson seconded that the sum of £2O bo expended on drainage on the Kihikihi road. Carried. Walk Hit’s Gully. —Tlie Chairman moved and Cr. Hunter seconded that the road at Walker’s Gully be fenced. Carried. New Works. —Proposed by Cr. Ridler and seconded by Cr. Hunter that no new works be undertaken until the next meeting, and that the clerk be instructed to bring np a report showing the money available for works in the various ridings. Carried. Tr Kore Bridge.— The engineer was instructed to make the necessary repairs to this bridge. Rariht Act.— A letter was received from Major Jackson, M.H.R., respecting the provisions of the Rabbit Act.—Cr. Smith moved and Cr. Ridler seconded, that the Act he rigorously enforced.—Curried. The Proposed Loan.— The Treasury, in reply to the Council’s application, wrote tn say tlie Government had no money at their disposal.—The Chairman moved and Cr. Ridler seconded, that the member for the district be written to on the subject.—Carried. Tenders. —On the motion of Cr. Ridler, seconded by Cr. Dawson, all tenders were bold over till next meeting. Gravel. —Mr Carter sent in nn offer to -supply gravel for tlie sum of £2O for ten years.—Tbo Council accepted Uio offer. WAGES.—Cr. Smith proposed and Cr. Dawson seconded, that the rate of wages be 5s per day. —Carried. Drastic Retrenchment.—After a long discussion on the question of reductions, it was resolved, mi the motion of Cf. Farrell, that the clerk’s salary lie reduced £5, and the engineer's £lO, Alemiiers of Hospital Board.— Or. Farrell proposed, and Cr. Grice seconded, that Crs. Hunter and Ridler be elected members of tbo District Hospital Board.— Carried.
