THE WAITOA “ SALTING ” EPISODE.
TO THK EDITOR. Sir,—Re “Justitia’a” letter in your issue of the Tilth inst., I hereby willingly answer all his questions, so far a-< I am concerned. As to who Kelly is, I am the individual, and it is no fault of mine that lam not known to “Jnstitia.” I havn been in this colony 23 years, and connected with New Zealand goldfields since the Thames goldfields opened, and I am at present the proprietor of the .Star Motel, Otahnlm. My only object in going to Waitoa was to see for my.-elf what the prospect was like, ami to satisfy myself as to its genuineness. And, as In who were my companions ; they were Messrs Murray (of Wats m and Murray, brewers, Auckland) and Captain Steele, of Hamilton, whom we met accidentally at Morrinsville, a gentleman whom neither Mr Murray nor I had any previous acquaintance of. As regards his name not having appeared in previous reports, it is no fault of his nor ours ; his name was never kept shut back for any purpose whatever, f am certain he has nothing to conceal, and does not fear to stand boldly in the broad light of day. “Jnstitia” thinks Hie Canterbury Company should investigate me and my party. I may say I invite the strictest investigation from either the, company or “Jnstitia,’’and that I am prepared to meet either of them in the most public manner they can name. Mr Editor, I have never concealed my name nor any of the party’s who wore with me, and it is wrong of “Jnstitia” to insinuate that I have done so for a dishonest purpose. If “Jnstitia” wants any further information he can apply to Patrick Kei.lv, Star Hotel, Otahuhu.
