THE STORY OF A NUGGET.
Tni! story of the finding of an SGoz nugget of gold in ;i vineyard is told in the following interesting letter from Mr Bite, mining surveyor ot the Starved district; —“ At about half-past fl o’clock a.m. on ? tho I itlr a man named Charles Huruall, 'while engaged in weeding vines in his garden, near Garden Gully, about a mile and a-half south from Great Western township, made a false stroke wdlh his hoe, and unfortunately rained one of his vines. This misfortune was, however, compensated by the fact that the same stroke of the hoe unearthed a fine nugget of gold, which, on its arrival at the London Chartered Bank at Stawell was found to weigh SGoz IGd wt 21gr. The gold will be forwarded to Melbourne on or about Ist November ensuing, and I think the Mining department should procure a plaster cast of it, as from its form (which may he classed as botryoidal) perhaps some information may be obtained as to the mode of occurrence of snob nuggets. The land in which the treasure was found had been previously repeatedly turned over, ’
