SIR ARCHIBALD ALISON AND THE VOLUNTEERS.
Sir Archibald Ausox issued the following general order in reference to the Volunteer Corps which left Aldershot on a recent occasion ;—“ln taking leave of the volunteer battalions which formed part of this division from August Oth to 18th, the Lieutenant-General Commanding wishes to hear special testimony not only to their good conduct ami discipline, which have been as excellent as in former years, hut to the soldierlike and cheerful manner in which they have gone through the hard work which was required of them. In consequence of the volunteer regiments having elected this year to take part with the regular troops in the operations against the field column, they have been called upon to make very lo ig marches (one of them over twenty miles, in trying weather), and to undergo more fatigue than has fallen to the lot of any volunteer .regiments previously encamped here. The manner in which they have gone through these marches, and the operations in connection with them, is highly creditable to the volunteer force and to the commanding officers and all ranks in the several battalions.
