T\yo Wellington residents, Messrs Tinkall and Bond, drew Silvermine in Adam’s Melbourne sweep, the prizes for which were £1)000, £2OOO, and £IOOO. They laid off 3000 to 200, and consequently as their horse only came in second they win £2200, or £4OO more than they would have received had their horse won the Cup. The Municipal Conference met to-day, and discussed many questions of local administration, such as slaughter-houses, drainage, fire brigade, gas, audit, &c. Major Porter, of Gisborne, denies that he made the statement regarding Te Kooti’a visit, which has been attributed to him.
