MR ARNABOLDI'S TOTALISATOR.
At the Waikato Hunt Club races on Thursday we had an opportunity of inspecting Mr Arnaboldi’s new totalisator, which was invented and constructed by that gentleman. Although the machine is somewhat larger than the ordinary totalisator, judging from the smoothness in working it Mr Arnahoidi is to bo congratulated on his clever invention. The advantages claimed for the machine are simplicity of construction, great speed in registering, and the impossibility of the grand total failing to register. In a trial the machine has registered six numbers per second, timed by a stop watch. As the inventor may patent the machine a full description cannot be given, but it may be stated that the grand total is worked by what is known in mechanics as a “ parallel motion,” the wear and tear of any part of tbo machine is compensated by slackening or tightening a screw. It will register 21 horses with 10,000 on the total ; it weighs about 4½cwt., and does its work in a thoroughly satisfactory manner.
