Hamilton v. Cambridge. The above, the fir.-t match of the season, was played at Cambridge on Saturday, and resulted in a win for Cambridge by 28 runs on the first innings. Play was delayed nearly an hour over the advertised time of starting, as the visitors had only six of their men present, but by taking two emergencies, and with the kind and able assistance of two of the local team, they managed to dispose of their opponents for 73 runs, to which Messrs Forrest and Longbottom contributed 18 each, the latter not out. Mr Connolly’s removal to the south end probably contributed largely to this result, as from the north ho appeared unplayable. Mr Stevens took the two cracks_ for a total of five. Hamilton, with eight wickets to fall, could maijage only 15 to which Ilir Radford contributed 16, the last three retiring scoreless. In Cambridge’s second venture, Mr Wilson made 20, and Mr M. Stubbing 11 not out, towards 17 for 5 wickets. Five men who had promised to play for Hamilton were absent, and Hamilton’s licking has therefore been welcomed with great pleasure by the executive of the H.G.C. as a lesson to members to roll up in future. Wilson has retained most of his old form in bowling, Rutherford had bad luck, and Couolly was e.Ycollent in the same department, Batting was very mild on both sides, Rutherford showing themost science, Radford, Wilson, Longbottom, and Forrest, the most energy. Bindon’s fielding for Hamilton was exceptionally good, even above his usual form, and tiaudin will prove a very efficient longstop. Camuuidue, Ist Innings 2nd Innings. J.
