CAMBRIDGE.

■ —■—— The Waitoa Deposits.— About a week ago the Mayor of Cambridge (Mr (4wyniielh), Messrs W. ,T. Smith, J. Arnold, and \V. Moon paid a visit to Waitoa to take samples of the alleged auriferous deposits, in order to have them thoroughly tested and thereby satisfy themselves as to their value. The first trial was made on land about a quarter of a mile outside Mr Smith’s boundary, where excavations had been made for road purposes. A small portion of tho deposit was washed, and a good trace of Ruld was found, which, in Mr (fwynneth’s opinion, would be about half a grain to two pounds of the sand. If lie is correct, there is no doubt a good thing in the Waitoa, despite the adverse opinions that have lately been expressed. They afterwards took samples from several of tho heaps on Mr Bmilli’s land. These they did not attempt to wash, but forwarded them to tho School of Mines at the Thames, where they will bo tested. When this has been done we will place the results before our readers. Acciiiknt to a Yorxc, Lady.—Miss Walker, the eldest daughter of Mr H. B.
