Pol, ice Col, tit. Wednesday (Before Messrs Mandeno and Taylor, .f.P.’s). Thomas Baker was charged on the information of Tukorehu—native—with having on or about the 13th or 11th of June, stolen one bay gelding, value ,t’S, the property of the informant. Inspector Kiely prosecuted. Tukorehu deposed to having the horse in his possession at Kihikihi on the 13th nr 1-lth June. It was tied to a (once near the house tie was staying at, and on the morning of the loth he went for the horse, and found that someone had taken it, leaving the rope. He searched without success for the horse. —Other natives swore to having seen the horse in Baker’s possession,—Defendant stated that he got the horse in Mr J. Ramsey’s paddock, where' it had been running, and that he took it to give ins
own a rest, —James Ramsey swore that the horse had been running with others in bis padd ick for nino.or ten days, and that Maker took it for the reason stated by him. He had seen the horse on the Rangiaohia run before it got into his paddock. The saddle, which was on the horse, was witness’ property.—The flench dismissed the case, as there was no evidence to show felonious intent on the part of defendant. The saddle was restored to the owner, Mr Ramsey. St I’.u'i.’s Church, Ranuiaoiita.—A concert in aid of the fund for having a new roof on this church, will be held on the 25th of next month, in the school room at Rangiaohia. As the promoters are taking trouble to secure the best talent available, the entertainment promises to be a most successful one. Another source of attraction for the young people, will be the dance afterwards. Chcucm Mattkrs. —Bishop Cowie is expected here on Saturday. lie will hold service at Kihi Kihi in the morning, Rangiaohia in the afternoon, and a confirmation service here at 7 p.m. on Sunday. Chkksk Factory. —The meeting which was to have been held on Thursday evening, was adjourned to Monday evening at 7.30 p.m., owing to the wet weather, as the object of the meeting is to arrange the terms upon which the factory will be carried on during the coming season, it is to be hoped there will be a full attendance of sup pliers. AI.TOINTMKNT. Constable William .Tones is gazetted to be clerk of the R. M. Court at Te Awamntu, and of the Licensing Committee of Rangiaohia, vice Constable Ryan.
