It appears that all the pigs in this native settlement were tabooed a few days ago by Te Whiti for wandering through the native burial ground, and orders were given by this chief that they should be all destroyed. This order was strictly obeyed by the natives, but some of the number who apparently had an eye to making money, and at the same time getting rid of their porcine friends, entered into a contract with a local hatcher to take a number of them at Is each. The porkers wore duly handed over, and the money paid, The knight of the cleaver also had his eye to business, and retailed tho pork back to the natives at Id per lb. The Maoris bought the pork readily at that price, thus proving the truth of tho adage, “ What the eye does not see the heart does not grieve for.” It is with very sincere regret, and wo are sure it will bo reciprocated by tho Hamilton people generally that we have to announce that Mr Templer, for some years past accountant at tho Bank of Now Zealand in Hamilton, has received an intimation that he is about to be removed from amongst us. Mr Templer during his stay amongst us lias taken a very active and prominent position in almost every kind of entertainment undertaken for charitable and deserving objects. He has been ever foremost in matters connected with the welfare of tho Church, and to his untiring care and attention the excellency of S. Peter’s choir is entirely duo, ,-' ( s conductor of the Choral Society his position pannot be replaced, and to bis critical and sound judgment in the matter of the selection of suitable and at the same time high class music, tho lovers of music in this district are very much indebted, Air Tcmpler’s departure from amongst us will cause a blank not easily filled,
