THE LANGWORTHY CASE.
Wi; (Die Pall Mall Gazette) congratulate Mrs Langworthy and her indefatigable legal representatives upon the ‘defeat of Messrs Piircham’s last appeal. It will be remembered that Mr Registrar Middleton awarded a provision of £2OO a year for the maintenance of the heiress of the Langworthy estates. Against this Mr i/mgworthy’s lawyers appealed to Sir James Hannon on Tuesday. The argument which they adduced to show that £OOO a year was (an excessive allowance for the only child of a man whose income was admitted to be at least £6OOO per annum were peculiar. First Mr ludorwick said Mrs Langworthy was not destitute, ns tho public had subscribed nearly £')000 for her maintenance. The sum subscribed is nearer £ISOO than £2OOO, and it was not subscribed for the purpose of maintaining Mr Langworthy’s child, but of enabling tho woman whom Mr Langworthy had wronged to fight for her legal rights agaiust such gentlemen as Mr Inderwiek and his professional clients.
