RAGLAN.

Os’ tho morning of the 2titli (polling-day political excitement here had near!) reached its height, and as the elector: arrived the persuavivo power of the friends of the vaiious candidates were brought into play. It was easily seen thal Major Jackson stood first favourite for the seat, though those advocating Mr Teas dale were also active on his behalf. Ttie friends of the latter stated in the Herald that they were going to get him a bind vote at Te Mata, but alas to their grief, Major Jackson scored a majority there, and when tho time for closing the poll arrived the anxiety and excitement f-o Raglan had grown intense. Upon tin state of the poll being posted up great was the exultation upon finding that tht gallant Major had won the fight here. After tea, as the telegrams arrived from each polling place, and Major Jackson still headed the list, ringing cheers foi him again and again were given by hi.numerous supporters, and as the last statement arrived from Hamilton, leaving only nine other returns to come in, it w.v felt to be almost a certainty that the Major would be returned. As for Raglan, his knowing the district so well, and fm Waipa, as an opponent of the present Ministry, advocating certainly the “cleanest sweep” of them all, “against the present Ministry, or any reconstruction of the same,” and by making a clean sweep, he will certainly help the country to get a “ clean sheet ” at last.—((hvn Correspondent, Raglan. September 07th, 1-SS7).
