WAITOA GOLDFIELDS.
[from or It OWN ruKMKSI’OJf OKNT. J Te Ahoma, Friday. Thkrk are fresh reports of further finds in the Waitoa district. It is now stated thal auriferous stuff has been g«>t o« the properties of Mr G. Gould and of Mr (bibbins, some distance from the workings on Mr J. B, .Smith's land. Whether thot later discoveries can be regarded as pay able, seems to require further proof, but they are of importance us showing th* extensive area covered by the gold-bearing deposit, and they give encouragement fm a more systematic trial of the localities n which they have been made. A gout! deal of prospecting is now going or throughout the district, and in the begin ning of the week Mr K. Barr sent awaj for trial a number of small parcels oi stuff taken from shafts lately sunk mi different parts of the property of Messr. Campbell. It is reported that thest gentlemen have recently disposed of ; considerable portion of their estate ;«t i price far above what could have beei obtained prior to the discovery i»f tin precious metals in the neighbourhood. Reported Find at Patetere. A great sensation was caused in Cam bridge, yesterday afternoon, by a man wh> had arrive! from Lichfield, and reporter that a sand similar to that at Waitoa ha« been found on the Patetere laud, only u foo below the surface, and that gold had beei washed from it.
