MORE DIRTY LINEN.

TO TTIK EIIITOII. Sir,—On the Kith July, Major Jackson issued his address to the electors but did not think fit to call his first meeting until the tilth of August, whilst every other constituency in New Zealand was being educated on all public questions. I, with many other electors felt we were being sat upon, and this must be my explanation of any action of mine during this election. Though Major Jackson thought fit to keep the electors wailing to discuss public questions for five weeks, he has called another meeting at Te Awamatu for to-night, and one at Alexandra for to-morrow, to explain a ciuit»s (irrsima) matter butwcuu himsulf and Mr B allance which to my mind was Major Jackson’s own seeking. So far as my judgment goes Mr Ballance was quite right in refusing to let the Government be saddled with 2.100 acres of laud bought entirely for speculative purposes, and not to promote settlement, or make homes for the homeless. As there are some hundreds of acres of land partially bought from the natives it becomes the Government to exercise due caution before taking on themselves these liabilities. Major Jackson introduced the name of Colonel Noake fan absent and gallant soldier), at the nomination in a manner ho was not justified in doing as this was a matter between him and ° his superiors. As Major Jackson appears to have a good deal of soiled linen oil hand, 1 hope the electors will protest against the floor of the House of Representatives being made a common wash house. • -I am, Ac., Sam. Stkei.i:. Ohaupo, September 23rd.
