WAITETUNA.
A most successful gospel temperance meeting was held in the Wesleyan Church at Raglan on Wednesday, hist August. The attendance was large. Mr A ,1. Austin, of Kauro i, occupied the chair. The following programme was (June through Hymn 1%, Sankcy’s; chairman’s speech ; hymn, “.lesiis knows thy sorrow," choir ; reading, “ Indictment of King Alcohol, ’ Rev. Mr Stephenson ; solo, "Sailing,” Mr Ernest C. Wallis; speech, Mr Dando; hymn, “0 Rouse ye Christian Workers,” choir ; reading, “Ask Mamma,” Miss McDonald; solo, "Thy Face,” Miss Wallis; hymn, “ He came to Bethany," choir: recitation, " The Suicide,” Mr K. 0. Wallis ; solo, “ The faded coat of bloc,” Miss Jacobs; hymn, " Tim Balace of the King,” choir. Then followed a colloquy, entitled _ " Kittle Bessie,," the various characters being ably sustained throughout by the Misses McDonald and Miss Wallis; solo, “ Make me a jacket of pa’s old coat, ’ Mr Clias. Mooli ; recitation, “ William Tell,” Miss Bessie McDonald: A.B.C. doot, Miss Wallis and Mr Ernest C. Wallis; reading, “Is it Thy work ?” Rev. Mr Stephenson ; hymn, "Como to Jesus,” choir. At this stage the Rev, Air Stephenson invited all those that had not already signed the pledge to come forward and do so, and one donned the bit of blue. About seventy' persons have signed the pledge since the commencement nf the temperance movement. Hymn, “I Will,” choir. Miss Wallis kindly presided at the harmonium. After the usual votes of thanks and the benediction being pronounced by the Rev. Mr Stephenson, the mooting terminated.— (A Correspondent, September -Itli, 1887,)
