SUGAR BEET GROWING , AS A WAIKATO INDUSTRY.

Mr W. A. Graham hold a meeting on Tuesday at Ohanpo, in Mr Millar's Hall, to further discuss the question of raising sugar beet in Waikato, with the view of establishing a sugar mill in the district. About forty people were present, amongst them many of the loading settlers from the different parts of the district. Mr Edward Lake was voted to the chair, who, in introducing Mr Graham, said ho thought it would not be necessary to say much, as they all knew how great an interest Mr Graham took in the subject, and to such an extent that ho had, at Ids own cost, collected a mass of information which had been placed in the hands of the public in pamphlet form some time ago. Mr Graham, in introducing the subject, said he had been induced to revive the question of beet culture again from haying lately received further information from San Francisco, which ho considered was nf snlticient interest to warrant him in again drawing the attention nf Waikato settlers to the importance of the industry. Mr Graham then proceeded with his address, which was written, and occupied nearly two hours in delivery. Much interest was taken in the matter hy those present, and the address was considered of such value that it would bo a loss to the public not to have the whole of the facts and figures before them, and on the motion of Mr Sorby, it was resolved that the address bo printed in pamphlet form and circulated throughout Waikato, Mr Graham, in conjunction with Mr Von Stunner and Mr Edgecombe, being appointed a committee to prepare the necessary data for publication. Major Jackson proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Graham for his address, which showed how great an interest ho took in the welfare of the district. This was carried by acclamation. A vote of thanks to the chairman concluded the business.
