NATIVE TROUBLE AT MAUNGAKAWA.

A REPORT reached ns last night that the survey of a road, about being carried out through some native lands at Manngakawa, will likely be obstructed by the natives, who are opposed to the work on the ground that it will bring the owners under the provisions of the Rating Act, and should they not have funds at their command to meet these demands, their lands will be sold to provide for same. A large meeting was being held tn discuss the subject, and in all probability we shall, hear of the work being stopped.
