TE AROHA.
(FROM OUR OWN CORRESIONDENT.) Te Arojia, Monday. On Saturday afternoon a number of the townspeople ami settlers in the neighbourhood met at the Club Hotel to consult as to the necessary arrangements to give effect to the proposal to establish a sanatorium here. Mr E. Y. Cox, of Shaftesbury, was voted to the chair, ami explained the object which they had met to consider. The preliminary prospectus of a proposed company was submitted, and after considerable discussion the following resolutions were unanimously adopted:—l. “That this meeting considers it advisable that a Sanatorium should be established at Te Aroha.” 2. “That iri furtherance of that object a company be formed, with 5000 shares of £1 each, to be styled “The Te Aroha Sanatorium Company.” A committee, consisting of Messrs Cox, Thompson, Gonld, Frazer and Robinson, was appointed to carry out the preliminary arrangements, and a sum sufficient to defray incidental expenses was at once subscribed amoug those present. Prom the business-like spirit with which the matter was taken up by the meeting, there is reason to expect that the proposed company will soon be successfully floated, and that before many months have passed the Sanatorium itself will be fairly established. At a special meeting of the Hot Springs Domain Board, held on Saturday evening to consider the application of Dr. Alford Wright, L.R.C.P., etc., to be appointed physician to the bath's, it was unanimously resolved to grant the application. Notification will, without delay, be sent to Wellington of Dr. Wright’s appointment, which, it is expected, will at once he ratified by the Government. A meeting of the Town Board, for the transaction of special business, was held on Saturday evening, when the following members were present: Messrs Dobson (chairman pro. tcm.), Frazer and Hotchin, A resolution was passed confirming the adoption of the by-laws adopted at the special meeting, held on July 9th. There was some discussion as to the rating powers of the hoard, and it was resolved that legal advice be obtained on matters connected therewith. The clerk was instructed to communicate with Mr Miller, solicitor, Thames, with reference to the adoption by the board of the Rating Act, of 1882, and the further consideration of the subject was postponed until the next monthly meeting. Friday and Saturday last were the coldest days experienced here this season. On both days snow fell on the ranges, and up till yesterday the higher slopes of the mountain displayed a light fleecy covering.
