[BY TELEGBAPH.— OWN COURPONT) ENT. ] The Mysterious Burning Case-

Auckland. Monday Xight. The lad McQuoid, who was burned in a mysterious manner at Onehunga, lies in a precarious condition.

Attempted Obstruction.

At the Police Court to-day, James Carey and Frank Green, two jockies, were charged with maliciously damaging the door of the Ellerslie Hotel. The same prisoners were charged with placing a twowheoled truck on the line at Ellerslie with intent to obstruct the engine. After hearing a part of the evidence, Sergt. Pratt withdrew the charge, admitting that there was no evidence connecting accused with the offence.

The Bay of Islands Coal Company. The Bay of Islands Coal Company’s halfyearly report showed that the coal sold during the past half-year amounted to 15,382 tons, being a decrease of 1255 tons as compared with the output of the previous six months. The seam in Xo. 3 level had lately improved in thickness. A reduction had been made in the cost of mining the coal, from which the company was beginning to derive some advantage; and a diminution in the haulage rates had been arranged for with the Government. The profit and loss account showed that last half-year's debit balance of iM47 11s Gd had been cleared oil, and that there is now a credit balance of t'lio Is. The directors hoped that this" might be still further augmented for the half-year now current.
