MR SAMUEL VAILE AT RANGIRIRI.
On Wednesday, August 3rd, Mr S. Vaile. of Auckland, gave an address in the schoolroom, Ranginri. The attendance exceeded 100, many of whom were unable to obtain admission, and stood in the porch and at the windows. Mr W. Puller was voted to the chair, and briefly introduced the speaker, who held the audience entranced for over two hours in the exposition of his scheme of railway reform, his simple and yet conclusive demonstrations being much appreciated by the audience. At the conclusion of his address a hearty vote of thanks was pr iposed by Mr A. Dye, seconded by Mr A. Gibbs, and carried by acclamation. Mr Sutherland then asked, as Mr G. W. Russell was in the room, if he would address the meeting, but that gentleman declined, stating that it was not his meeting; but the audienca demanding a speech he then came forward, and in a few eloquent sentences paid his tribute to Mr Vaile for his great work in the interest of the public, and hoped he should soon be in a position in Parliament to assist in giving the scheme effect. In conclusion the whole audience rose to their feet, and gave three hearty cheers for Mr G. W. Russell, and three more for Mr Vaile, thus bringing to an end the largest and most impressive public meeting ever held in Rangiriri.—A Correspondent.
