A HORRIBLE DISCOVERY.

A horriih.k discovery was made recently in Bermondsey. It appears that about a quarter to ten one Tuesday morning a somewhat poorly-clad female presented herself at the police-station iu Paradisestreet, Rotherhithe, and told the acting inspector, Sergeant Robert Springett, that she wished to give hcraolf up for killing her two children Tho sergeant then questioned her. She repeated the statement, and said that it was quite true. She gave the name of Elizabeth Willing, living with her husband, a shoemaker, at No. 70, Prinoe's-road, Jamaica-aoad, Bermondsey. She was detained at tho policestation, and Sergeant Springett at once proceeded to the address given by tho woman, and on entering tho back room on tho ground floor a terrible sight presented itself. Lying on the floor with her throat cut and her skull smashed in was Elizabeth Willing, aged 2.j years, her brother George, aged eight years, being also in the room on tlm floor, with his head in a pail of water. On being removed from the pail the boy was found to bo terribly injured, tho top part of his head being almost a pulp with the skull and brains, a largo portion of the latter having splashed all over the room. It is stated that tho father of the children left home on Tuesday morning in search of employment. For some time tho family hive been in distressed circumstances, and for the past few days it was noticed amongst tho neighbours that tho mother appeared very strange. A chopper and billhook, which wore found in tho room with marks of blood upon them, are supposed to be the instruments used in the fearful deed. The woman was brought up at the Southwark Police-court and remanded.
