SIR JOHN HALL AT LEESTON.

[by telegraph—press association.] Timauu, Monday. Sir J. Hall addressed a crowded meeting at Leest.m last night. He was favourably disposed to making enquiries whether education could not be worked at loss cost. He contended that to tax large properties at a higher rate than smaller ones was putting a tax on industry and economy. He did not approve of the proposals of the Government. The colony practically must stop borrowing. There were works now which it would be better to stop than carry on with borrowed money. A portion of the audience cheered for Sir J. Yogel and on R. Stout.
