[nr TELKG ItAPH. — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Wednesday. Mr Alexander Wilson lias withdrawn from the contest for Wellington South and suburbs.

Dunedin, Wednesday. Dr. Fitchett addressed the electors of Dunedin Central last evening, declaring strongly for the Government and protection. A vote of confidence was accorded the candidate. Paeroa, Wednesday. Mr'Mackay, in the out districts, has been well received. Mastkrton, Wednesday. Election matters are getting warm. Mr Beetham has convened a meeting to discuss Free Trade and Protection next week, and Mr Hawkins to discuss Mr Beetham a few days later. Mr Hogg is largely supported by the working classes. Akaroa, Wednesday. Mr McGregor spoke at Akaroa on Tuesday night. He is a strong advocate of retrenchment, and condemns the StoutVogel Government. He received a vote of thanks. Both votes of confidence and noconlidence failed to be carried.

Westport, Wednesday. Mr O’Connor had the largest meeting last evening, ever held here. The speech was mostly in refutation of charges against his administration as County and harbour Board chairman. He produced records of both bodies to prove the falsity of the accusations. He accused the Westport Times, and the local agent of the Press Association, with constant misrepresentation, denouncing them in most unmeasured terras. An unreserved vote of confidence was carried by acclamation. No questions were asked. Timaru, Wednesday. _ For the eighteen Canterbury constituencies there are thirty-five candidates nut, af whom fifteen are Ministerial, thirteen Opposition, and seven independent. Eight seats have only one candidate each, so far, viz., Christchurch North, Vogel; Christchurch South, Ayers ; Hoathcote, Jones ; Sydenhnm, Taylor ; Lyttletnn, Joyce ; all Ministerial. St Albans, Gnrrick ; indopen. dent. Ashburton, Walker; Ministerial. Rangitata, llollcston; Opposition.
