TAUWHARE.

Mr,T. B. Whyte met the electors at Tunwharo, in the school room on Saturday evening last. There was a very small attendance, only twenty, no doubt owing to the inclcinentweather and very bad roads. Mr Dodd was proposed as chairman, but declined the honour. Mr Browning was then proposed and took the chair. Mr Whyte spoke for about an hour and a half, but, as he then said, what he said here would be repeated in a groat measure at Hamilton and Cambridge, where, no doubt, it will be fully printed. One little item, I think, ought to be mentioned, however. He said that if the electors were really in favour of retrenchment they would elect him, for if fits opponent went to Wellington, he would receive 200 guineas, while if he went, he would only get 100. Now, if Mr Whyte is in favour of retrenchment, why did he not say that he would do without the extra honorarium ? Surely 200 guineas is sufficient! A number of questions were asked by Messrs Diprose, G. Allright, Furze, and Clark, but only to one did Mr Whyte give a direct answer. He was not in favour of the hible being read without explanation in our schools. His answers, however, seemed favourable to the majority, who were his own supporters. A vote of thanks and confidence was then proposed, an amendment of thanks only was lost, only three voting for it. Several of the audience did not vote at all. A vote of thanks to the chairman brought the meeting to a close. — (A Correspondent.)
