(bv telegraph.—press association). Wellington, Friday. Anne Parker, the woman accused of stealing a watch from the body cast up in the harbour, was remanded for medical examination as to her sanity. A man named Tyler has been committed for trial on a charge of breaking into the store of McDougal and Co. Edward Morris, undertaker, was prosecuted by the Cemetery Trustees for oxhoming the body of a Chinaman without permission. As it was the first case of the kind only a small penalty was asked for, but the R.M. said it was necessary to mirk the gravity of the offence, and inflicted a fine of £5 and costs.
Political speeches are now becoming frequent, and so far the meetings have all been orderly. Mr Izard at South Wellington, imi Mr M ison at the Hutt are both declared independent, but the former sympathised with the Opposition. He supports free trade, and opposes bible reading in schools. He obtained a vote of confidence. Mr Mason advocated retrenchment protection and reduction of the cost of education, and received a vote of thanks.
