THE HAUHAUS IN THE NORTH.
INSPECTOR M'COVERN ARRESTS THE OFFENDERS. STUBBORN RESISTANCE.
(BY TELEGRAPH, —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, Friday. The native department have received information that Mr Bisiiop R.M., Inspector McGovern, and ten constables proceeded yesterday to arrest a number native fanaties for having stripped and tied up a settler named Hearn at Waihou, near Hokianga. A desperate encounter took place, the police having to rsort to firearms. One native was seriously wounded, and a number of the police were badly cut, but otherwise uninjured, The whole, of the fanatics were eventually arrested.
