THE WAGES QUESTION.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— l see "Live and Let Rive” is still harping on his old theme, “ Starvation .wages." He can't have a very extensive knowledge of New Zealand; no doubt he has been vegetating in the Waikato the greater portion of his time, therefore this place is his little world. Lot him try on Iris scale of wages, pay rent and buy everything out of it, with a large family and no farm luxuries, and he would feel the pinch of starvation. It’s no use harping on shillings; strike at the thousands, and give a poor man what will keep body and soul together. If you don’t, it will, as "Harapipi ” said, end in bloodshed. “Live and Let Live’’ tells ns the Government are the friends of the working men. If so, don’t kick them for their past kindness ; but give them ihe right hand of fellowship, and now is the time to show nur gratitude, for wc shall riot Ijava another opportunity.—Yours truly, Henry Blackwell, Cambridge West, July Ji/th, 1837.
