WAITETUNA.
Inspector Carlhv has just finished putting the Raglan Volunteers through their classfiirng. The shooting was not very good owing to the defective ammunition (the Auckland made) There are several first-class shots amongst the men, yet they could not make a good score, some of the shots falling short, and others making tho carbine kick dreadfully. It is almost impossible to get out the empty cartridge with out the aid of the cleaning rod. Lieut. Bruce suggests that tho Government should supply each man with a small mallet to hammer them out. Tho carbine loaded with this ammunition after tho first shot would bo perfectly useless in active service. Lieut. Bruce, in the absence of Colonel Shepherd, held an inspection of the men on Wednesday. People here are enquiring about Mr W. A. Graham for tho Waipa seat. It is an open question who will be the favourite candidate in this district.—(Correspondent).
