RAGLAN.
At a meeting of the Whaingaroa Highway Board on June 25th, the chairman and Mr W. H. Wallis, who were appointed to inspect the main Waipa and Kanroa roads in the board's district, presented their report, and it was resolved, “That the approaches to bridges and repairs most needed be at once donor’ The request nf Mr Bruce for a road to tic Peninsula was brought under the board’s notice. It was resolved “That the amount due to the Waikato Hospital and Charitable Aid Board (£4 Ss fid) bo remitted. The clerk was instructed to apply to the (lovornment on the 20th wist., for subsidy dm: on that day to tin: board. It was resolved, “That the Minister for Lands bo requested at the earliest possible date to bring the unoccupied lands adjacent to the Hot Springs reserve, North Whaingaroa, under the village settlement scheme, and that the remaining portion of the road, via Hiintly, N'garnawahia, and Hut Springs, to join the main Waipn-Raglan road, be completed, the missing link (about two miles) when finished completing the through route, ami joining existing main road at Waitctnna.” Tenders were opened for the erection of finger-posts and notice boards, to be erected near the roads diverging from tiro main roads in the district. The lowest tender was accepted. A tender for repairing main roads for twelve months was ordered to be on the table. It was resolved “That a general road rate of i'd in the £ on ail properties in the district for the year ending 21st March, 1888, bo payable on the 2,'lrd July.” It was resolved, “That the request of Mr J. J. Austin, that that portion of the road from section -11) to tbo three streams be made passable for wheeled iiaffie, be put on the list of works to bo done. The petitions for the wharf at Raglan and for the extension of the district have now the required number of signatures, according to the Acts, and the road board will no doubt now obtain the amount required for the former purpose. Both on Saturday and Sunday last were extremely stormy days here, thunderstorms passing over the district with a perfect deluge of rain. The weather seems now to have taken up, last night and tonight (Wednesday) being very cold with sharp frost. The young grass is looking very well in many parts of the district.--(Own Correspondent.)
