LATEST AUCKLAND NEWS.

[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] Supreme . Court. Auckland, Wednesday Night. In the Supreme Court to-day in the hearing of the perjury case against Alfred Campbell, the lerrned counsel for the "defence successfully .submitted that as the indictment charm! the prisoner with perjury after having "been duly sworn upon the Gospel of God." He in reality having been sworn upon a Jewish bible after the Jewish form of taking an oath, the indictment must necessarily be quashed. The Judge sustained the objection, and ordered the indictment to be quashed, and the prisoner was discharged. Violet Kate McFhee, who was found guilty of setting Hre to the furniture in her house in Victoria-Street was put in the dock for sentence. Evidence was called as to character. His Honour, in sentencing the prisoner to three years 'penal servitude said he took into consideration her state and her former good character. The full sentence of the law was 14 years.

Property Sale.

Messrs Ton Its and Co. held a sale of valuable properties and shares to-day. The properties comprised the handsome and commodious concrete residence situated at Albert Park, and lately in the occupation of Mr J. Chambers, was sold, subject to an annual ground rental of £55 10s per annum, and purchased by Mrs Jeannie Wilson for £3000. The central _ Oairua block of 1000 acres, on which is situated a:large hotel known as Winder's Hotel, was sold to Mr Laycock for £2000. _ The next lot was allotment 56, township of Woodville, parish of Taltapuna. It was disposed of for £70 to Mr G. Winstone. 1120 shares in the Auckland Tramway Company were bought by Mr J. Buchanan for 3s Gd per share, while 1334 shares in T. and S. Morrin and Co. fell to Mr James liussell for 28s a share.

Burglary.

The premises of Walton and Son, bootupper manufacturers, were burglariously entered yesterday, and about eighteen pairs of boots, valued at £8, were stolen. A man named James Watson has been arrested at Newmarket- on suspicion. He had five pairs of boots in a bag, and these have since been claimed by Mr Walton as his property. The accused was brought before the court to-day, and remanded in order that the police might apprehend another person who is under suspicion.
